The simplistic legato melody portrays a wanderer on a journey through the countryside. Though composed in D minor, the piece avoids any extension Bbs or C#s making this minor tonal centre more accessible for younger students. There is a D major section in the middle that features the cellos and violas before the opening melody returns. The piano part is not essential but certainly adds depth
